Great Bulbs of Fire

Spending the evening at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, where the outdoor seating surpasses that of the Corner Bakery.  Reason: large trippy glowing orbs of light.  They are nestled in the ground beneath carefully-placed squat palm trees, ficus trees, and tropical grasses.  The bamboo-and-steel tables and wicker chairs only add to the semi-tropical-chic look.  The ultimate effect reminds me a bit of that magical scene in L.A. Story (a seriously underrated film, imho) where Steve Martin and Victoria Tennant walk hand-in-hand through a magical garden that comes alive and envelops them in jungle magic transforming them into wide-eyed children while Enya plays in the background.  I grant that this sounds like it would be terrible on every level, but somehow it isn't.

  1. Oh, and Nic, this place *does* have heat lamps. You've been utterly vindicated!
